The entertainment industry can be a series of highs-n-lows!  Just ask Mavado—the self-proclaimed ‘Gangsta for Life,’ who says he is a combination of both a singer and a rapper!

“I’m both,” Mavado says without hesitation when asked to classify his entertainment style.

Recognized largely for his cross-over hit—‘I’m So Special,’ Mavado aka the ‘Star-Boy’ is preparing for the upcoming Labor Day weekend—a series of concert performances, as this will be Mavado’s first time performing in the states since having his Visa revoked in 2009—leaving him quarantined in Jamaica or as he put it, “On the Rock.”

This however, did not stop the ‘Gangsta for Life’s’ career one bit!  For his On the Rock remix—Mavado commissioned “Mr. R.O.C.” himself—aka Jay-Z who even spit more than his standard 8 bars—giving the already hot track ‘official’ hip-hop credibility—from the R.O.C. to the Rock!   To further solidify his hip-hop credibility, in 2010—Mavado was featured in Drake’s, “Find Your Love” video as the Gully-Gangsta.

Relentless and restless, Mavado and his manager—Julian Griffiths were adamant about getting Mavado’s work visa reinstated.

“Me want to first give thanks to the American government for checking out the whole thing (situation) and the allegations of everything.   I’m about the music and making hit songs for the people dem,” said Mavado.

Fresh and reinvigorated, Mavado has also started up his own music label: Mansion Records, releasing his first single entitled, ‘Delilah’—which has been very well received by the streets!

“Jah’s love will serve the way—so even when people try to put ‘we’ down and try to get rid of ‘we’—Jah is always there and will always make a way—same way I wanna’ big-up my fans dem…”

Mavado is as real as they come—an artist who is not only true to himself but true to his fans!
